Overview

The Secure Document Area course  provides a comprehensive guide for establishing an Information Security Program (ISP) that meets the requirements of the Safeguards Rule and the Disposal Rule.

The FTC Safeguards Rule became effective on May 23, 2003. The rule requires all automobile, RV and motorcycle dealerships to implement specific written safeguards – an Information Security Program (ISP) – to protect customer information defined as Nonpublic Personal Information (NPI).

The FTC Disposal Rule, effective June 1, 2005,  requires dealerships to properly dispose of consumer information using reasonable methods to prevent unauthorized access to, or use of, discarded consumer information. The Disposal Rule implements the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act (FACTA) amendments to the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA).

The information in this training module is not legal advice and does not create an attorney client relationship between any purchaser or user and David N. Robertson, Member Benefits Services, Inc., the Association of Finance & Insurance Professionals, their employees or contractors, or the company or individual who recommended it. The programs and all forms, procedures and resources have been reviewed by legal counsel familiar with the regulations to ensure their applicability.
