The reality is, COVID-19 is something we have never experienced before, and it can be said that there is a level of uncertainty that comes with it. The hardships are real and although I don’t claim to know everything that is going on, and depending where you are, your situation may be different. What we can all agree on however, is that sales are down, and dealers everywhere are feeling the pain. This is true in our area of New York and New Jersey, where the virus has hit the hardest. From what I hear from fellow dealers and friends, life is not easy. Staff layoffs, shortened hours, skeleton crews, and remote deliveries are just some of the changes we’re experiencing. Facetime and Zoom are the new normal. Wearing face masks and gloves is being considered the right thing to do, and sanitation is now the foundation of life. Oh, and of course, trying to get your hands on some Lysol.
I know this is a difficult time and life isn’t easy. Some of us are stressed, anxious, or maybe even angry. All of these feelings are valid, and we are all looking forward to the day “normal” comes and we can get back to work. While we can’t predict how soon that day will come, what we can do is be ready. The day will come when our doors are open, and showrooms are flooded with people once again.
So let’s not be complacent. Let’s not just sit back and relax, while the guy next to us is getting ready for his comeback. Let’s utilize the tools available to us to become better, to sharpen our skills, to stay knowledgeable, and to stay on top of our game. After all, how much Netflix can one really watch? Take this time to become the best.
